Asset Allocation and Investment Management
At the beginning of 2007, our firm managed approximately $1.25 billion in discretionary and non-discretionary accounts. In discretionary accounts, we typically help our clients determine and periodically review their investment goals, develop an appropriate investment strategy, and implement the strategy on behalf of the client. In non-discretionary accounts we provide portfolio tracking, performance reporting and timely information for tax planning and compliance.
Investment Approach
- PHAM seeks to manage risk by investing in carefully researched securities and by achieving substantial diversification through the use of mutual funds, exchange traded funds, and closely held investments including private equity, hedge funds, natural resources and real estate.
- We do not accept any commissions, sales loads, incentives or other compensation from any third parties. All compensation comes from our clients and is clearly disclosed.
- PHAM does not try to time or otherwise “beat” the markets. We are long-term planners, asset allocators, and implementers. We help our clients develop long-term investment strategies that fit their financial goals and then implement those strategies using the most appropriate vehicles available.
- Palisades Hudson offers a comprehensive package of financial services, our investment management typically is closely integrated with tax planning and other aspects of our clients’ affairs.
Investment Implementation
- Most client investments are held in custody accounts at large institutions. We do not commingle clients’ funds with one another or with our own. Clients receive statements directly from the custodial institutions as well as our own enhanced statement showing the client’s comprehensive investment picture.
- Most investments are made through low-cost mutual funds and similar cost-effective vehicles.
- When appropriate for a client’s risk tolerance and financial position, PHAM can provide its clients with access to premier private equity and hedge fund offerings.
Advisor Compensation
“…We are compensated solely by our clients. This eliminates the potential for certain conflicts of interest. Our only priority is helping our clients’ portfolios grow, and aligning our interests and compensation with those of our clients is the most efficient way to achieve that priority. Our independence and objectivity are among our strongest competitive advantages…”
