For the second time this year, Palisades Hudson Charitable Portfolio, Inc., is accepting donations to fund longterm recovery efforts for victims of major natural disasters.
PHCP disbursed $4,400 this summer to the Agency for India’s Development (AID) to purchase a new fishing boat for villagers in Tamil Nadu, whose livelihood was wiped out by December’s Asian tsunami. PHCP’s objective was to provide a tangible benefit that would make a significant difference in the lives of at least a few victims of the catastrophe. After studying and interviewing numerous local and international aid agencies, PHCP concluded that the grant to AID would be the most efficient and effective way to accomplish that goal.
PHCP plans to use the same approach to help victims of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Major relief organizations such as the Red Cross will raise and spend billions of dollars to provide immediate relief to storm victims. The modest amounts PHCP can raise would have relatively little impact in that effort. But a small amount of money, directed to an appropriate local group, could make a big difference in the long-term recovery of at least a few of those affected by one or both of this year’s major hurricanes.
PHCP is a publicly supported charity recognized by the Internal Revenue Service. Donations can be sent to PHCP at 2 Overhill Road, Suite 100, Scarsdale, NY 10583. For more information, please call toll-free (877) 485-4000.
